

Bill was born on August 22, 1938 in New Milford, Connecticut to the late William Charles Albon, Sr. and the late Naomi Miller. After graduating from New Milford High School, Bill enlisted in the Navy in 1956 where he served with distinction as a Radioman for 10 years. During his time in the Navy he served in Vietnam where he received the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal and Combat Action Ribbon. Of his numerous honors in the Navy, Bill was proudest of his Good Conduct Medal, which took him 10 years to earn! After departing the Navy, Bill continued to serve his country as a telecommunications officer for the Department of State. In this position Bill and his family served in numerous posts overseas to include: Israel, Malaysia, Liberia, Senegal, Nepal, and Greece.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 52 years, Charlene Gould Albon; son, Robert Albon and wife, Mami, and grandchildren Mimi and Sean of Martinsburg, West Virginia; son, Lieutenant Colonel Brian Albon and wife, Susan, and grandchildren Joshua and Margaret of Camp Lejeune, North Carolina; brother-in-law, Tom Gould of Dothan, Alabama; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Trina and Frank Thompson of Troy, Alabama. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Albon and son, William P. Albon.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Tuesday, September 13, at 2:30 P.M., in the sanctuary of Abernethy Memorial United Methodist Church in Newton, with Pastor Faye Herbin officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1 to 2:15 P.M., in the church’s parlor.
Military honors will be conducted as a part of the celebration of Bill’s life for his faithful service in the US Navy and his country.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the many caregivers at Wake Forrest Baptist Hospital, Catawba Oncology Clinic, Catawba Hospital, and Catawba Regional Hospice who worked so hard to extend not only quantity of life, but quality as well.
