She was born and raised in Lafayette, NJ and was a lifelong Sussex County resident.
Janet was a dedicated member of several organizations throughout her life. She was a lifelong member of the Lafayette Fire Auxiliary for over 50 years and served as the past president, as well as a lifelong member of the State Fire Auxiliary since 1971. A lifelong member since 1970 of past Peter S. Hotalen Unit 157 of Branchville, serving as a post unit president and past county president, as well as serving as the department Sgt. in Arms, and a member of Salon 489, 8 & 40. Janet was also an honorary member of the Lafayette Fire Department and was proudly part of their Color Guard.
Janet was a familiar and beloved face known throughout the community. She worked at ACME for 35 years and worked on the Sussex County Election Board on their write-in team after her retirement in 1996. In August of 2000, she worked part-time at Hayek’s Market for over 24 years, where she touched the lives of many customers she served.
Janet is predeceased by her parents, William and Florence (Haggerty) Plotts; her daughter, Karen Castimore; her brothers, William Plotts and Robert Plotts; and her brother-in-law, Dan McCole. She is survived by her daughters, Sharon Little (Perry), Peggy Sue Kusek (Tom), and Michelle Frey (Richard); her honorary daughter, Cindy Yanish; her grandsons, Bradley Little(Rena), Keith Little, Tanner Frey, and Carson Frey; her great-granddaughters, Kaylee, Harper, and Jaelyn; her great-grandson, Everett; her sister, Ruth McCole; and her sister-in-law, Barbara Plotts; as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, March 16, 2025, at The Lafayette Firehouse, 126 NJ-15, Lafayette Township, NJ 07848 from 1pm to 5pm. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, March 17, 2025, at The Lafayette Firehouse at 11am, interment to follow at Frankford Plains Cemetery.
