June was born on March 7, 1938 in Stroudsburg, PA to the late Sheldon and Ruth (Karcher) Smith. June grew up in Pleasant Mt., PA and lived in Blairstown before settling in Sussex County over 60 years ago. June was a longtime member of the Kittatinny Rangers Square Dance group and of First Presbyterian Church of Newton. June was a gifted quilter and enjoyed sewing. She adored being outdoors, in her younger years she was a talented gardener and grew various vegetables and flowers. She routinely took her family camping where they spent many summers at Cape Cod. After the passing of her husband, June was a part of a grief support group with whom she spent much time.
The beloved wife to the late, Robert H. Whitworth, Sr., June is also survived by her children, Robert H. Whitworth, Jr. and his former wife, Christine and Debra Whitworth Wechtler and her husband, Derek; her grandchildren, Amanda Whitworth and Samantha Wechtler; her siblings, Blair E. Smith and his wife, Carole, and Irene B. Cantwell and many nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, February 1, 2024 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. at Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High Street, Newton, NJ. A funeral service will begin at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Knowlton Frame Cemetery in Knowlton, NJ.
