Nancy Keba Snook

On Sunday, April 24, 2022, Nancy Snook, a loving wife, mother and grandmother, passed away at Bon Secours Community Hospital in Port Jervis, NY following a brief illness. Nancy was 68 years old and had lived with her husband, Clifford, in Milford, PA for the past 32 years.

Nancy was born on May 24,1953 in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada to the late Harry and Ellen Keba and moved with her four siblings and parents to the US in 1962. They resided in Culver’s Lake in Branchville, NJ.

In 1971, Nancy met her husband Cliff when they both worked at Grand Union Supermarket in Newton. She was a cashier and he was a bagger. She often joked she “bagged her bagger”. They were married on June 29, 1974 and given the gift of adoption of their daughter, Kimberly, in 1983.

Early on in her childhood, Nancy found her passion for nursing due to various childhood illnesses. She wanted to be like her favorite nurse that took care of her when she was in the hospital as a child. She first went to LPN Nursing School and later went on to receive her RN degree. Nancy found her calling in the pediatric unit (similar to the one she was in as a child).

During her 30+ year nursing career she worked at St. Clare’s Hospital, Denville, NJ, Morristown Medical Center, Morristown, NJ, and finished her career at Newton Memorial Hospital, Newton, NJ. Her coworkers commented that Nancy was a caring, sweet, and skilled nurse.

Upon her retirement, Nancy enjoyed spending time taking trips to the beach. She dreamt of the ocean air on her face. She also traveled to the Amish country in Lancaster, PA with family and friends.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Ellen Keba, in-laws Howard and Ludvina “Winnie” Snook, sister-in-law Pamala Petty, and nephew Kyle Keba. She is survived by her husband Cliff, daughter Kimberly, grandson Alex, siblings Carolyn (James) Patterson, Linda (Robert) Cihocki, Karen (Michael) Abruzzo, Susan (William) Habermann, and Harry (Judith) Keba, sister-in-law Agnes “Dolly” Colwell and her husband Garry Andriesse, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

After 3+ years of dialysis Nancy was a kidney transplant recipient in 2009. Her sister Karen was the donor and because of this Nancy’s last request was to donate any viable organs allowing another person or persons to receive the gift of life that she had been given. Her family finds it heartwarming since April was National Organ Donation Month. Due to Nancy’s extensive medical history, she also wished her body to be donated to medical science for research.

Nancy did not want a funeral, viewing, or memorial. She celebrated life everyday through all her medical ups and downs, so we shall celebrate her in a Celebration of Life to honor this amazing and brave woman.
