Alexander William Luey

LUEY, Alexander William - On December 22, 2019, Alex’s 3 year battle with cancer came to an end when he peacefully slipped away with his family by his side at McMaster Children's Hospital at the age of 15. Beloved son of Scott (Mallory) and Catherine (Phil Rudachuk) and brother of Nicole Shirley Voisin (Geoff). Cherished grandson of Bill and Mary Lou Luey and Niall and Deanna Flynn. Alex was predeceased by grandparents Shirley Burchell, George Burchell and Ruth Burchell.  Alex will be greatly missed by many uncles, aunts, cousins and friends. Our family would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the Pediatric Oncology team at McMaster Children’s Hospital and the surgical team at Sick Kids Hospital where he was treated numerous times during the course of his illness. A special thank you goes out to the nurses and staff at Ward 3B2 at McMaster where Alex was treated with very special care as an inpatient for the last months of his life. Alex’s love of sports as an athlete and a fan (especially the Washington Capitals) was well known and, in recognition of this, his wish was that friends and family would celebrate his passion by joining his family in wearing a sports team jersey to the visitation and celebration of life which will be held at the Patterson Funeral Home, 6062 Main St., Niagara Falls, visiting Friday, December 27, 2019 from 1 pm to 4 pm and from 6 pm to 9 pm. A celebration of Alex’s life will take place on Saturday December 28, 2019 at 11 am at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the agencies that helped Alex and our family the most during his battle: Ronald McDonald Charities South Central Ontario, The War Amps & McMaster Children‘s Hospital Child Life Fund.
