CARUSO, Ava Lauren – With hearts shattered beyond measure, we share the unimaginable loss of our beloved Ava. Ava passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of her family on Monday, October 6, 2025 at McMaster Children’s Hospital. Ava was 16 years old.
Cherished beyond words by her devoted parents, Mike and Christine (née Raymond) Caruso, and deeply loved big sister to Ellena Caruso. She will forever be the precious granddaughter of Richard and Deborah Raymond, and John and Maria Caruso. Ava was the adored niece of Julie (Michael Bendzsak) Raymond, Frances (Jamie) Leitch, Roberto Caruso (Sarah Lichter), and Marco Caruso. A treasured cousin to Edye and Ethan Bendzsak, Madeline and Andrew Leitch, Annabel and Isaiah Lichter-Caruso. She will be lovingly remembered by many great-aunts, uncles, extended family, and dear friends whose lives she touched so profoundly.
Ava had a light that shone effortlessly — bright, warm, and impossible to ignore. Her smile could lift any spirit, and her kindness left a lasting mark on everyone who knew her. Always the first to lend a hand or offer a word of encouragement, Ava’s heart was as big as her beautiful dreams.
Ava’s humour, and compassion drew people to her and left an impression that will never fade. She loved deeply, cared fiercely, and always put others before herself. As the first granddaughter on both sides of her family, Ava led with kindness, strength, and confidence — a true role model for her cousins, who looked up to her.
Ava was proud to serve as a lifeguard and swim instructor at Brock University. She loved playing travel soccer and shone on the field with her team. Ava was full of curiosity, adventure, and had a zest for life. She loved to travel, explore, and experience everything the world had to offer. To know Ava was to know joy, warmth, and unconditional love. She was unforgettable — a beautiful soul who embodied love in its purest form.
We are forever grateful to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and Hematology/Oncology Department at McMaster Children’s Hospital for their exceptional care, compassion, and support for Ava.
Friends and family are invited to gather at Patterson Funeral Home, 6062 Main St., Niagara Falls, on Friday, October 17, 2025, from 1–4 p.m. and 6–9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of the Scapular Church.
