1958 – 2025
It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Christine on Sunday, September 28, 2025, surrounded by her loving family in the comfort of her home.
Born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, to the late Ann and Francis Lavery, Christine carried her Irish roots with pride. In 1989, while visiting Canada on vacation, she met Norman the very next day. They married soon after and have shared a beautiful, inseparable life together for the past 36 years.
Christine’s Irish heritage remained close to her heart, and she delighted in sharing its traditions with her family and friends. At the same time, Canada became her true home, and she celebrated with pride the day she became a citizen. Her kind, sweet, and loving spirit touched everyone she met, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, generosity, and love.
Christine will be forever cherished as the beloved wife and best friend of Norman, and as a devoted Mom to Paul Lavery (Amanda), Kelly Dalton (Nathaniel), and Julie (Matthew) McGowan. She was also a special “Mom” to Linda McIntyre. Her greatest joy was being Granny to Conor Lavery and to baby Bronwyn McGowan.
She will be deeply missed by her extended family, including her chosen daughter Seanein and her children - Brooke, Rogan, and Paige - as well as her dear sister-cousin Deirdre in Northern Ireland. Christine’s memory will also be fondly treasured by her many close friends, especially her beloved Breakfast Club.
Throughout her life, Christine devoted herself to caring for others with endless compassion. As a foster parent with Family and Children’s Services, she opened her heart and home to 26 children over 27 years, offering them love, guidance, and a safe place to grow. She also extended her care to three clients of Bethesda Services, treating them with the same kindness and dignity. For nearly three decades, Christine greeted friends, colleagues, and customers with her warm smile as a cashier at Zehrs, where she built lasting friendships and touched countless lives.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the doctors, nurses, and caregivers who supported Christine with such compassion and dignity in her final days.
In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Christine’s Life will be held at a later date, with details to follow. The family invites you to share a memory or story below in honor of Christine as they navigate this profound loss.
