Derwyn Big D Trevor Owen Thomas

It is with great sadness that we announce Derwyn’s sudden, but peaceful passing on February 18th, 2014 at the Greater Niagara General Hospital in his 78th year. Beloved and devoted husband of 26 years to his soul-mate, Carol (nee Savriga). Father of Jeffery Thomas of Toronto and Belinda Gingras of Welland. Grandfather of James Gingras. Brother-in-law of Faye and Ida Thomas, and Deborah Stovell. Proud uncle of many nieces and nephews, and a loyal friend to extended family. Predeceased by his parents Dave and Mary Thomas of Welland, and siblings David Thomas, Phyllis Luchyshyn (Myron), Jack Thomas, and Jane Doan (Howard). Born and raised in Welland, Derwyn was a loyal and dedicated employee of Atlas Steel for 46 years. No matter how bad the snow was, he made it into work. He was a full time member of the Masonic Lodge and an affiliate of the auxiliary police. In his earlier years Derwyn enjoyed playing baseball with his nieces and nephews. He was a great fan of wrestling and his Toronto Maple Leafs. On nice days you could always find him outside chatting with his many neighbours. Derwyn was a man who had a kind and caring disposition and got along with everyone. He will be greatly missed and always remembered. In keeping with Derwyn’s wishes, cremation has taken place.

The family will receive visitors at HETHERINGTON AND DEANS FUNERAL CHAPEL, 5176 Victoria Avenue, Niagara Falls on Tuesday February 25th from 1:00-2:30pm.

A Memorial Service will be held in the Chapel at 2:30pm and inurnment to follow at Fairview Cemetery.
