

CARMODY, Father Emeric John, O. Carm - In your prayers, please remember Father Emeric John Carmody, O. Carm. He died August 2, 2013 at St. Patrick Residence in Naperville, Illinois. Emeric John Carmody was born on November 13, 1928 in Buffalo, NY. He professed First Vows as a Carmelite on August 15, 1948 at the Carmelite Novitate, New Baltimore, PA. He professed final vows at Whitefriar's Hall, Washington D.C. on August 15, 1951. Fr. Emeric graduated from Mt. Carmel College, Niagara Falls, Ontario. He studied music at the Catholic University of America, Washington and at DePaul University, Chicago. Further studies were in English at Catholic University and Saint Bonaventure University, Olean, NY; Art at The Art Institute of Chicago and Theology at Princeton Theological Seminary. Fr. Emeric was ordained a priest on May 29, 1954.Fr. Carmody's first assignment was as a teacher at Mt. Carmel High School, Chicago. For many years he memorably taught Religion, Music and English at the Carmelite Junior Seminary, Hamilton, MA. He was also a composer of choral music and choir master there. For several years in the 1960's Fr. Emeric was associate pastor of St. Patrick's Parish here in Niagara Falls. Later he served at St. Cecelia's Parish, Englewood, NJ, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish in Teaneck and several places in New York. In 2006 he moved to St. Patrick Residence in Naperville.Visitation and a Funeral Mass were held at the National Shrine of St. Therese in Darien, IL on Monday August 5. Fr. Emeric Carmody will lie in state in the Chapel of Mt. Carmel Spiritual Centre, Niagara Falls, on Thursday August 8 from 2:00 to 5:00 pm, 7:00 to 9:00 pm and Friday August 9 from 9:00 to 11:00 am. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at Our Lady of Peace Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the Carmelites at Mt.
