

PATTERSON, Francis Gerard (Funeral Director Emeritus) - Passed away peacefully in his sleep at Queenston Place Retirement Residence on Monday January 23, 2023 at the age of 89. Beloved husband of 58 years to the late Patricia 'Pat' Patterson (nee Shanahan, 2017). Cherished father of Ruth-Ann (Ed) Nieuwesteeg, Sandra (Brian) Smith and the late Mary Frances Patterson (2019). Proud and loving grandfather of Ryan Nieuwesteeg, Dr. Alexandra Nieuwesteeg, Trevor Smith and Daniel Smith. Fondly remembered by his brothers-in-law Al (Mary Ann) Sbrizzi, Leo Shanahan, as well as many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Harold and Adella Patterson, siblings Jack (Ruth) Patterson, Ruth-Ann (Bill) Doherty, Gail Sbrizzi, and sisters-in-law Rita (Ray) Page, Pat Shanahan. Mr. Patterson began working in funeral service with his father and Uncle Gerry in the 1950's. He was a third-generation Funeral Director and Embalmer, licensed in 1960 and he served his community tirelessly until his retirement in 2014. He was honoured to dedicate his life to funeral service. In 2022, he was honoured by the Bereavement Authority of Ontario with the title of Funeral Director Emeritus, recognizing his over 60 years of service as a Funeral Director. Francis will be remembered as incredibly witty, disciplined, patient, wise, humble, warm, kind and gentle - but above all else, for his passion for helping others. Mr. Patterson was a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus. Friends are invited to join the family at the PATTERSON FUNERAL HOME, 6062 Main St. Niagara Falls, visiting Thursday January 26, 2023 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday at 11 am at St. Patrick's Church, with the Rite of Committal to follow at Fairview Cemetery. In memory of Francis, and to honour his passion for funeral service, memorial contributions may be made to The Francis Patterson Memorial Scholarship at Humber College. Cheques may be made payable to Humber College, with Francis Patterson Memorial Scholarship in the memo line.
