

NELSON, J. Mark - Passed away suddenly at the St. Catharines General Hospital on Tuesday January 31, 2017 in his 53rd year. Loving son of Kathleen Murphy and the late Robert Nelson (2011). He leaves behind his siblings Patricia, Katherine, Jeff and Christie (Nelson), his nieces Victoria Threet, Bridget Nicholls, Portia Samardzich and Fallyn Cameron also his nephews Burke Pembleton, Liam Nelson and Caleb Nelson. Predeceased by his nephew Michael Pembleton (2005). He also leaves behind 10 great nieces and nephews. A graduate of Niagara College and one of the college's most accomplished athletes, Mark won three Niagara co-athlete of the year awards, three All-Canadian awards, a Niagara College Award of Excellence, was one the first to be inducted into the Niagara Falls Sports Wall of Fame in 1990 and was also one of the first athletes to be inducted into the Niagara Knights Hall of Fame when it was established in 1998. Mark was very passionate about badminton, and it showed in the way he coached his promising athletes, including those whom he was selected to coach in China in 1989. Mark was co-business owner of an e-waste company named N.E.R.R.D. Friends are invited to call at the PATTERSON FUNERAL HOME, 6062 Main St. visiting Friday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday at 1 pm at St. Patrick's Church. Cremation will follow, with inurnment at a later date at Fairview Mausoleum. In memory of Mark, memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to The Niagara College Athletics Department (Badminton), and would be appreciated by his family.
