James Edward Nowak

NOWAK, James Edward - Jim passed away peacefully, with his family by his side, on Tuesday July 19, 2022 - a week shy of his 78th birthday. Predeceased by his beloved wife Janet (2020). Cherished father of Julie (Dave) Calvert and David (Allyson) Nowak. Adored grandfather of Lauren, Madeline, Sydney and Camryn. Brother of the late Chuck (late Carol), Cathy (late Bob) Majtkya and the late Dolores (late Dick) Rotterman. Survived by several nieces and nephews. Jim was born in Buffalo, NY and he eventually moved to Niagara Falls after meeting Jan. Jim and Jan were inseparable - the two of them often seen walking holding hands even in their final years together. He loved all things aviation, a passion that started with his service in the US Air Force. For Jim, family came first. You could find him with his family at the local hockey and curling rinks and baseball fields. He enjoyed golfing with his son-in-law Dave. He taught his grandchildren many valuable life lessons, none more important than how to eat 10 raspberries at a time using all your fingers. He loved a good practical joke, especially those tied to being Polish. Perhaps the greatest gifts he gave his family were an appreciation of the importance of listening and the calmness they always experienced being around his quiet personality. He will be dearly missed. At Jim’s request cremation has taken place, followed by a private family service. In lieu of flowers, please stop and pet a dog today.
