My Dearest Brother John, I remember snuggling into your warm chest in bed on cold winter mornings in our unheated flat and of you asking me to ride on the back of your BSA to visit your girlfriend Sandra in Montreal East This seemed like many miles away as it was always freezing but I loved it and John you always would enjoy my my company . So many memories of you studying in your cramped tiny room on Notre Dame Street and you with your slide rule doing your calculations and eventually becoming a Chemical Engineer. I always bragged about your putting yourself through that tough course and I still find myself doing that when meeting new friends. I will always miss you and yours. Till we meet again with our parents Stella and Bill Dunn and sisters Grace Jeannie Betty and brother Willie. Your sister Linda who loves you ever

  I want to send my condolences to John's family, he was a great man full of laughter and joy.

Judy & I wish to pass along our condolences. John was a key figure in our lives in the Niagara Falls and Chippawa communities. 




He was a great role model for us. His commitment to his career and his manufacturing plant was exceptional. Our Niagara Plant thrived because of his leadership. He had such empathy for all our co-workers and enjoyed his connections with them.   I engaged in many sports with John - hockey, slo-pitch, basketball and  of course golf. He was a very, very good golfer! He was very competitive and fair. We all shared some very happy memories in those sports.

I was so saddened to hear that John left this world for another heavenly one. He is with his family now, that left before him. I will always remember John fondly with a lot of respect. He was a rock to his family. Always there for them. When Willie passed away, it was a very devastating day for me and I can imagine what dear Sandra is going through. John always called Willie to chat with him and ask him how he was doing. He also asked how his family was doing (me, Lawrence and Pam) It shows that family, (immediate and extended) were important to him. We always felt loved by him. John was there beside me to support me in planning Willie’s funeral. I can tell he was proud on how I handled it. Afterwards, he would sometimes call to say that he heard Willie on the radio. He would also attend any memorial musical events in honour of his younger brother. He was so proud of him. Well, John, we were very proud of you too. For your stature and embodiment of the whole Dunn family. We will miss you tremendously. Test in peace brother-in-law. Kitchi Meegwetch. 

Dear Mrs.Dunn and family. I want to express my deepest condolences on the loss of your husband, father and grandfather. I will always cherish the wonderful memories of Mr. Dunn. He was a true gentleman and great childhood neighbor. Treasure is memory.

Mrs. Dunn, Sandra and family so sorry to hear of your loss. I’m sure you all can take comfort knowing what a full and inspiring life he lived. I have so many great childhood memories of Mr. Dunn ( I’m 63 and still find it hard to refer to him as John) Wether, it was playing bridge on Saturday night with my parents  or John Championing the Chippawa baseball association. I also remember a grade six science fair, my project  was on plastics and with some help from a Chemical Engineer I finished first. I could go on and on  with stories  I remember but in short Mr Dunn played a big part of my families life. John was someone we loved and will always be thought of as a true gentleman and a very good man.

Dear Sandra and family, I was so sad to hear about uncle John. He was a wonderful person, who will be terribly missed. I still remember going to Chippewa, with Granny, to visit you all one Easter. Losing a great man like John is never easy, but I know that you will be surrounded by love and your loved ones. Please accept my sincerest condolences. Love Barbara and family.

Dear Sandra and all my Dunn cousins. I will remember Uncle John as someone who was always happy to see you and always up for a chat about almost anything. His stubbly kisses and warm hugs were always a welcome greeting. His passion for education, family, sport and music were infectious. He leaves a big hole in all our hearts, but many fond memories. Sending you all lots of love at this difficult time.

My condolences to Mr. Dunn's family. I had the pleasure  to work with John when he was selected to manage the Responsible Care program for the local chemical companies. One part of the program was the formation of the CAER group. The Community Awareness and Emergency Response program directed by John and endorsed by the local chemical companies involved my participation at Lubrizol .With open houses, and yearly emergency response to spills or fires with the tank cars, trucks and factory working along with the Niagara Falls Fire Department and the regional  police services. John's passion for golf included a golf outing for the retiring fire chief Dave Kemp. Most don't know of John's commitment . Again, my condolences.

My condolences to the Dunn family. My Dad, Ron Smith worked at BF Goodrich and always praised John. My mother Hilda also thought highly of John. My prayers and thoughts are with you all.

John was my golf partner and neighbor for the past 25 years until he could no longer walk without a walker.  He loved his golf.  And then we became 'walker' buddies about two years ago. I had my both knees replaced so I needed a walker to get around, and John and I would walk through Stevensville pushing our walkers together while chatting up a storm.  The only thing John liked more than golf was his family.  John always bragged and spoke very proudly of his kids and his grandchildren.  He was very proud to be Sandra's husband and told me stories about their card games.  He loved his family. The one thing I will never forget is his 90th birthday party at his house almost 2 years ago.  His kids were there, his grandchildren, former workers from before he retired, many neighbors, and who knows, maybe even strangers were there.  The house was full.  In fact, at times, there was a line-up at the front door with people waiting to get in. The kitchen was full, the living room was full, hallways were full, I think there were even people in the basement.  There was John, sitting in a chair at the kitchen table - giving everyone (who formed a patient line) a turn to talk to him, and he, as he did his whole life, treated everyone like they were very special.  And I think that was once of John's proudest moments - having everyone there. As I stood back by the refrigerator watching, I thought, wow, that is the richest man I have ever met. And I was, and am, very proud and honored that I was able to meet and get to know John and Sandra.  P.S.  I never did beat him in golf.

Our deepest condolences. What an incredible man carrying resilience and love throughout his entire life. May you find comfort in seeing his traits in each of his kids, grandkids and great grand kids. The tall Oak sways will forever be inyour hearts.

Our Deepest Condolences to Sandra, family & friends.   Mr. Dunn was more like an uncle to me than family friend.  The Dunn's moved to Niagara and lived in the house beside my grandparents, they became really great friends of my parents, so close that in the spring of 2007 our families got together and Celebrated their 50's anniversary's together, I'm sure many people commenting here will remember it.  :)    I miss having the canoe races along the upper river,  John & Patti in their canoe and my dad & I in the other,  last one was in the late summer or early fall and yep we tipped!  :)    Mr. Dunn you left an amazing legacy and are going to be missed by so many people.

Chantale I and the kids are all very sorry to hear of John’s passing.  He was a fun man to be around.  The thing I think that best described my Uncle was that he was genuinely interested, in things, and people. That made him interesting.  I will miss his handshake and hugs.  

Such a incredible life well lived surrounded by the love of his family.  We have the fondest memories of gatherings on gorgeous Edenwood with the Dunn family and John would always be there, smiling. From pig roasts to birthdays, he would be gleefully watching (and sometimes joining in) on the games. May you continue to feel his presence in eachother and the natural world.

Thank you for the warmth and love, papa. You’ll be remembered. 

After a long absence in John and Sandra’s life I decided to pay them a surprise visit on January 31, 2024. I am getting forgetful so I take pictures of those I love. Both John and Sandra’s photos are among the many photographs of my daughters and granddaughters which I shared with them for several hours during that visit. To the kindest and caring man I have met. You will be missed John. And my heart goes out to Sandra and the Dunn clan. 

My upmost sincere condolences to uncle John's immediate family.  I understand the loss you're all feeling.   On behalf of myself and mine, you're in our hearts.  John was the only other brother out of all the sisters and the last to go.  I hope him and Willie are reunited <3

Deeply saddened to hear of John’s passing. Spent several years playing fastball with him on the BF Goodrich team in the 70s and seeing him and Sandra at hockey rinks across Niagara. Always a joy to meet and you knew he would engage you in great conversation of sorts. Truly a remarkable man with his charming personality and wit. Everyone would be better off having met a person like John.

John was such a lovely and generous man. The first time Gary and I met John & Sandra was the family party they hosted in their home to celebrate Callie & Andrew’s marriage. I remember John serving a bottle of champagne to all of us . He was so delighted with their marriage (as we all were) and Sandra presented Andrew with her father’s gold wedding ring, which fit Andrew perfectly! 
When Callie was ill, John facilitated his club to pay for a wig of Callie’s choice. She was so moved by his kindness. We all were. 
Dear John, after a long and happy life may you rest in peace. 💕
