Born in Liverpool, England, on Thursday, September 17, 1931, June studied nursing and midwifery in England, and then as a registered nurse (RN) moved to Canada to work in the St. Catharine’s General Hospital. She later continued her career at the Greater Niagara General Hospital (GNG), where she retired decades later.
A founding member of the “Crafty Ladies” an unofficial guild, June was also a member of the Niagara Falls Curling Club, an avid bridge player and amateur golfer. After retiring from nursing, she joined the GNG Hospital Auxiliary and supported the Cancer Foundation helping transfer patients within the Greater Niagara and Hamilton Region. As a member of St. Andrew’s United Church for most of her adult life, she found great solace in her readings of scripture and the friends she made there.
Special thanks to absolutely everyone at both Valley Park Lodge and Queenston Place Retirement Residence as well as to Lorraine Hammond, June’s special respite companion during the past few years. A Celebration of life will be held at St. Andrew’s United Church (5645 Morrison St. Niagara Falls, ON) on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, at 1 p.m. Donations can be made to St. Andrew’s United Church, Alzheimer Society of Niagara Region or Arthritis Research Canada.
