

ARTISTA, Luciano - With profound sadness, the family of Luciano Artista announces his peaceful passing on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at Meadows of Dorchester, surrounded by his family. He was in his 88th year. Luciano was the beloved husband of Angiolina (nee Ventresca) for 64 years. He was a loving and proud father to Lea and Jim Ferraro, Nadia Artista, and Antonietta and Jason Marsh. He was a devoted Nonno to Alessandra and Vincent Quaranta, Claudia and Michael Diaz, Anthony Ferraro, Olivia Sottile (Troy), Stefano Sottile (Jessica), Paolo Sottile (Courtney), and Gianluca Marsh. Luciano was also an adoring Big Nonno to Santino and Giuliano Quaranta. He was a dear brother to Rosa Susi and a brother-in-law to Maria Pingue. Luciano was predeceased by his parents, Dionisio 'Quinto' and Oliviera Artista, his parents-in-law, Giuseppe and Giovannina Ventresca, and his brothers-in-law, Giuseppe Susi and Sabatino Pingue. He is also mourned by many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and neighbours in Canada and Italy. Born in Introdacqua, Abruzzo, Italy, Luciano immigrated to Canada in 1956 at the age of 20. He worked in various industries before establishing a plastering company with his cousin, Antonio (Tony), known as Artista Plastering. Later in life, Luciano transitioned into a career in real estate. An accomplished musician, Luciano studied music in Italy and played the piano, accordion, guitar, mandolin, and clarinet. He was instrumental in establishing an Italian folk choir, which performed at church festivals and participated in local parades and events. Luciano was also a member of The Niagara Strings Concert Band, a proud founding member of the Italo Canadian Centennial Club, and a member of Club Italia. In addition to his musical talents, Luciano was an avid reader, meticulous gardener, and accomplished winemaker. He was known for his homemade Italian sausage and cured meats. He enjoyed hunting, playing cards, and listening to music, with opera and country music among his favourites. Most of all, Luciano cherished time spent with his family, whether it be at Sunday dinners, family birthdays, or holiday gatherings. He was happiest surrounded by the love and laughter of his family.The family extends special thanks to the staff of Meadows of Dorchester, particularly in Spring Garden, for their exceptional care, patience, and compassion. They are also deeply grateful to the many staff members and residents who participated in the Walk of Honour for Luciano. The respect shown will always be remembered. Visitation will be held at Patterson Funeral Home, 6062 Main Street, Niagara Falls, on Sunday, September 15, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, September 16, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Ann Church, 5740 Buchanan Ave., Niagara Falls, followed by cremation. A private Rite of Committal will take place at a later date. In memory of Luciano, memorial contributions may be made to Heart Niagara, Project Share, or Meadows of Dorchester, and would be appreciated by the family.
