With profound gratitude for having our treasured and irreplaceable mother and grandmother Mary Schwartz with us until she reached her 100th birthday, we announce that she has joined her truly beloved husband of 70 years, Paul Schwartz, passing away at Millennium Trail Manor on March 30, 2026.
Mary was born in Tevel, Hungary, on March 19, 1926 and with her mother Kristina Breitenbach emigrated to Canada at the age of three to join her father Stefan Breitenbach to begin their new life together as a family in a country that they were proud to embrace.
Along with her husband Paul and her parents, Mary proudly owned and operated the A-1 Motel on Lundy’s Lane for 30 years, from 1953 to 1983. Mary was a driving force at the motel whose strength, precision and welcoming smile helped to make their small family-run business a popular repeat destination.
Mary is deeply loved and survived by her devoted daughters Diane (George) Schneider and Sandra (David) Mason, along with her greatest pride and joy, her loving and dedicated grandchildren, Mark Schneider (Katie Rochefort), Jordan Mason and Kylie Mason. For their loyalty and heartfelt generosity over many decades, Cathy and Rick Robinson deserve to be recognized for their unselfish help and support for Mary and her husband Paul.
Friends are invited to join the family to celebrate Mary’s life at the Patterson Funeral Home, 6062 Main St. Niagara Falls, ON, on Monday, April 13th. Visitation from 10:30am to 12:00pm, followed by a Service in the Patterson Funeral Home Chapel. The Rite of Committal will follow at Lundy’s Lane Cemetery. For those who wish, donations in Mary’s memory may be made to the Niagara Health Foundation (South Niagara Hospital) or the Canadian Diabetes Association (Niagara Branch)
