It is with heavy hearts that his family shares the passing of Paul Rylett on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at the age of 73. Although fighting prostate cancer for over 3 years, a recent fall causing a hip fracture and additional medical complications was more than his weakened body could fight. We take comfort in knowing he has joined his beloved heavenly son Kellan; and now rests in complete peace and pain free.
We remember Paul as a devoted soccer, baseball and para ice hockey (sledge) coach. Coach Paul touched many lives. He was more than a coach. He was a husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, friend, and a father figure to many. He will be sadly missed by his devoted and loved wife Marjie (nee Klapatiuk). Proud and devoted Dad to Kyle (Stephanie) and the late Kellan. Beloved Graypa to Jayne. Dear brother of Heather (John) Synnott and Marilee (Mark) Magder. Uncle of Emily Synnott, Robyn (Justin) Sherwood, Corey (Maddison) Magder, and Cameron (Alena) Magder. Great-uncle of Bryson, Laurel, Owen, and Lilia. He will be lovingly remembered by his sister in law Janet Dietz (Tom Winger), her son Derek (Victoria) Dietz, their young son Dylan; as well as other family members and many friends.
Paul retired from General Motors Canada after 31 years of service. His dedication, kindness and wisdom inspired everyone who had the privilege of knowing him throughout his life. He was a kind, passionate and talented coach to many, young and old, in the Niagara Region. He was a soccer coach with the Niagara Falls Boy’s soccer club, two different times. First, with his son Kyle's team and then returned several years later to coach his nephew Derek's team. Whatever sport his two boys played, Paul was always there as a coach or just a proud dad cheering them on. He coached boys baseball with the GNBA (Greater Niagara Baseball Association). In his later years he was the President and coach of the Niagara Falls Good-timers Senior Baseball League for several years. His most joy came from being the coach of the Niagara Thunder Blades (para ice hockey). His involvement in sledge hockey, SBAN (Sport by Ability), and OSHA (Ontario Sledge Hockey Association) spanned over 35 years. He was given the additional privilege of coaching a team in the OWB (Ontario Winter Games) with players from all over Ontario, in two different years. Paul was a proud and longtime member of the Stamford Lion's Club, also serving as the President. He loved being with his family, travelling on many trips, collecting hockey and baseball cards and listening to music. Though he may be gone, his impact will live on in the lives he shaped and the memories he has left with so many.
In keeping with Paul’s wishes cremation has taken place and was entrusted to Patterson Funeral Home. A Celebration of Paul’s life will be held on Thursday, November 20, 2025 starting at 2 pm until 5 pm (doors open at 1:30 pm) at the Knights of Columbus Hall (formerly the Our Lady of Peace Hall), 6990 Stanley Ave. Niagara Falls.
In keeping with Paul's love of his favourite sports teams, please feel free to wear either the NY Yankees, the Toronto Maple Leafs, or the Green Bay Packers in his honour. If desired, memorial donations may be made to the Walker Family Cancer Centre and would be appreciated by the family. Online condolences may be made at www.pattersonfuneralhome.com.
