Dear Susan & Family,  On behalf of Acres/Hatch Alumni I send our heartfelt condolences  on the loss of Ray, our colleague and friend.  I have many fond memories of sharing our faith and working alongside  Ray on a number of projects on a long career at Acres.   May the hope that we have in Christ Jesus be your peace as in  1. Ray was a man of upstanding and virtuous character who loved His Lord and strove to live out his life to please Him.  He was a  wonderful husband to his beloved wife Susan, and a tremendous role model and father to his two children, Kathleen and Peter.  Ray & Susan operated in their own unique and quiet style, and each of them and their home was open to numerous individuals who sought respite from many hardships in life.  Often these people were the ones whom everyone else passed over.  Their table hosted many individuals who would not have been welcomed elsewhere. 

Ray leaves an unimaginable and yet to be uncovered legacy of love and acceptance that hugely impacted the lives of many individuals and, in many cases, helped them to turn their lives around.  Kathleen and Peter are the beneficiaries of such role modeling and I have no doubt that they will pass on what they have learned to Ray & Susan's grandchildren, Ashton and Taylor, and to others.

Ray was a quiet and seemingly serious man but underneath that proper English facade, was a man with a great sense of humour.  I remember at one of our social evenings at Queensway, some of the men had to lie on the floor and "catch" marshmallows that had been freshly dipped in chocolate/syrup and dropped from their partner's hands.  The first man to catch a certain number, in his mouth, was the winner.  It really was most undignified, but Ray was a willing participant and his face (and elsewhere) ended up being absolutely covered in chocolate.  Through it all, Ray gallantly attempted to catch Susan's offerings while maintaining a great sense of humour.  He provided wonderful entertainment for the rest of us and showed us that he was not a stuffy Englishman, but a quiet man with a great sense of humour. 

So, it is with sadness that we bid farewell to this quiet but impactful man.  We give thanks that he is no longer in pain or hampered by an uncooperative body but is living freely and gloriously with his Lord and Saviour.

We are so very sorry to learn of your loss of Ray.  We have memories of our times as young families.  Bruce and I remember Ray as a quiet, positive gentleman, a wonderful family man and very capable engineer.  Our thoughts and prayers are also with you, Kathleen, Peter and family.

What a gift Ray was to Community… His desire to serve Jesus in so many humble ways was a beautiful example to so many. He didn’t desire the “finer things“ in life so he could be generous, kind and ready to serve at any moment. I always appreciated his bright smile and ability to take the time to check in… We are thinking of you all and praying for you as you journey through this time of grief.

I have known and worked with Ray for many years at Acres.  He was always in a good humour, even when the going got tough. 

So sorry to hear of his passing.

Mr. Stead as I referred to him was a kind, gentle and loving man. Always took an interest in my little life. Always was concerned about the “outsider” and the ones who were less fortunate. I remember him picking people up and bringing them to church. He was so compassionate. I remember watching his life as a young man and in the church context, and seeing him live out the life of Jesus so well.

My sincere condolences to the family of Ray. His grace is sufficient!

Very sorry to hear this news today and offer you Susan, Kathleen and Peter my heartfelt condolences. I remember 'Mr. Stead' well from Queensway and what a kind and lovely man he always was. My dad thought so highly of him too and I can't help but wonder if there is a wee spiritual gathering of those good souls happening somewhere right now. Thinking of you at this time.

Praying for you and your family, Susan.  Together you have faithfully served Jesus throughout the years.  Ray will forever be remembered as a humble & gentle servant of God.  As a couple, you have demonstrated what a Christian marriage looks like and you honoured your wedding vows until the very end.  The best reality, though, is that it’s not the end; it’s only the beginning and your hope in Christ and a Heavenly Home will be your source of strength and comfort in these days. Uncle Ray was my Godfather and a wonderful example of godliness and devotion to faith. I have fond memories of trips to Rock Point, hiking, outdoor adventures and all the lovely cards of thoughtfully written words of encouragement and love. I could not have asked for a better Godfather and I am so blessed to have been covered in prayer for my entire life thanks to his commitment. Uncle Ray’s kind, compassionate demeanour will be how I remember him and he will be missed greatly. My deepest condolences to his family and those that held him in their hearts.
