Jan 4,1931-Jan 19,2026
Our dear father, grandfather, brother, uncle and son, William Jhon (old English spelling) Adlington has
passed away. He had turned 95 years old, just 2 weeks prior. We were very fortunate to have him with
us throughout his long life. He died Jan 19th, 2026 while receiving palliative care.
Bill was born in east London, UK on Jan 4th,1931. He was one of 8 children. As he lived close to the
London docks, he was evacuated for 2 years to northeast England along with 3 of his sisters, brother
and mother, during the 2nd World War. His father stayed behind as an air raid warden. Luckily they all
survived.
Bill joined the British Royal Navy as a young man and became an aircraft mechanic. He travelled on
battleships and aircraft carriers and was stationed in Singapore Malaysia for an extended period. He
was also stationed at the Culham Air Base in the UK. After 8 years, he left the navy and returned to life
in England. Before he immigrated to Canada with his young family, he worked at the MG car factory
in Abingdon UK. Bill and his family settled in Toronto.
Bill found work with a company, which built and outfitted large industrial buildings, including large
department stores. He became well known for managing these sites, and was eventually hired to work
for Sears Canada as a maintenance and security manager. During his long career he was relocated to
Saskatoon, Mississauga and Cornwall. He and Helen lived in Calgary after his retirement, while he
worked and travelled through the western provinces as a regional manager for a large cleaning firm.
They retired permanently to the Niagara region about 30 years ago. Bill and Helen loved to go on long
country drives, and travelled extensively. They also enjoyed visiting and travelling with family
whenever they could.
Bill continued to live independently until very recently. He was a great cook, loved crosswords, IPAD
games, audio books and being active. He was a well travelled man, who loved to share his stories
about his many adventures he experienced throughout his life. He particularly enjoyed spending time
in the hot tub and recently, very much enjoyed a long country ride in a vintage MGB with the top
down. We will miss his stories and his very presence in our lives.
Donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society in his name, if you wish
