Carleton H. Landers, 93, of Niantic, CT was at his home in Niantic, Connecticut on October 18, 2022 and peacefully passed while listening to classical music in the same rocking chair that he rocked his three children in when they were young. Carl, “CH” was born in Boston, Massachusetts on October 26, 1928 and raised by his Grandmother, Mabel Smith, in New Bedford, Massachusetts. Carl has passed to the inevitable and joined with his spouse Alice Landers and son Glenn Landers.
Carl was a United States Navy veteran who served as a Master Electrician and joined just three days after World War II had ended. He helped put the Scorpion in commission, a Nuclear Submarine that later went down off the Azores after visiting Europe. The majority of Carl’s naval career was spent at sea while performing his duty for the country.
After he retired from the Navy, Carl cooked aboard the Fishers Island Ferry and then started his own businesses. One business was a small food shack near Waterford Beach, and another business was Landers Electric where he was an Electrician and General Contractor who wired and built many homes in New London County. After working for Landers Electric, Carl’s two sons, Glenn and Greg, started a company of their own called Landers Brothers Electric.
Carleton had contributed as a Cub Scout leader, an East Lyme baseball league coach, and a Shriner. He was member to the Eastern Star, Bay View Lodge #120, and Brainard Lodge #102 Ancient Free and Accepted Masons of the State of Connecticut for 68 years.
Carl enjoyed wood working, scuba diving, golfing, education, playing the ukulele and harmonica, whittling, crossword puzzles, current events, and philanthropy.
Over the years CH generously supported his family and provided a spare room, a place for company to visit and enjoy traditional holidays together.
He is survived by his son Greg Landers, daughter and her spouse Trudy and Ken Greenwood, his
three Grandchildren, Stacey Greenwood, John Greenwood, and Karleigh Landers, and three Great Grandchildren, Amadeus Tulli, Tolin Greenwood, and Katie Greenwood, as well many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
