Lillian Anna Beers, of Niantic, passed away on May 11, 2023. Lillian was born on November 24, 1929, in East Lyme, the daughter of Franklin and Anna (Yuhas) Wentworth. She was the widow of H. Spencer Beers, who passed away in 1983.
Lillian worked tirelessly alongside her husband for many years, raising their family in the house on Fairhaven Road that they built with their own hands while also growing a business, Beers Septic Tank Service. Lillian most enjoyed the simpler things in life, including views of the creek behind their home adorned with beautiful summertime sunsets, awaiting the return of the osprey each spring and watching them raise their young, birdwatching in all seasons with the ability to identify any type, calling her daughters each time a rainbow appeared in the sky so it wouldn't be missed, solving her daily crossword puzzles with ease, and winding down each evening watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time in the company of family and friends.
Lillian is survived and fondly remembered by her children, Spencer (Mary-Anne) Beers, Richard Beers, Lorie (John) Sasman, and Lisa Beers, all of Niantic. As much as she loved her role as Mom, she got an even greater joy as Grandma to Danielle (Wayne) Heath of SC; Spencer (Alyssa), Christopher, and Jonathan Beers, and Katie (Christopher) Pollard of Niantic; Steven Kensel of CT, and Jade (Dominic) Cavalco of WI; Amanda (Jared Macha) Beers of Groton; John (Jen Clark) Sasman of Salem, and Eric (Charlotte Ryng) Sasman of Bangkok, Thailand. She leaves behind 13 great-grandchildren, including a special, loving bond with Isabelle Lillian Helen Sasman and Paisley Jane Macha.
Lillian is also survived by her loving sister, Carol Larson, of Niantic, and many nieces and nephews that held a special place in her heart. She was affectionately known as Ma Beers or Aunty Lil to many, and if she loved you, you knew it.
In addition to her husband, Lillian was predeceased by her daughter, Jean Byk; sisters Virginia Naujoks and Shirley Pringle; and brothers Allen, David, Charles, Frank, and Kenneth Wentworth. Per Lillian's request, there will be no services. A private burial for the immediate family will be held. Fulton-Theroux Funeral Home, Niantic, is handling the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to East Lyme Ambulance Fund, Inc., PO Box 965, Niantic, CT 06357.
