

Niantic - William J. Clancy, of Niantic, died on September 13, 2010 at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital after a sudden illness. He was born on July 28, 1932, in New Haven, the son of the late William J. And Mary Carney Clancy. He was a member of the first graduating class of Notre Dame High School and a graduate of Fairfield University. His advanced studies were completed at Southern Connecticut State College and Boston University. Mr. Clancy committed his professional life to public education, serving in the various roles of teacher, coach, principal, assistant superintendent and superintendent of schools in the communities of New Haven, Guilford, Wethersfield, East Greenwich, RI and Exeter, NH. After his retirement in 1997, he moved with his wife to Evergreen, CO where he began a “second career” as an avid fly fisherman. He was a lifelong, passionate fan of The Boston Red Sox. Upon his return to CT in 2005 he became a member of St. Ann’s Episcopal Church in Old Lyme and a member of its vestry. He is survived by his wife Maryann B. Clancy, his daughter Kate Clancy of Niantic; his precious grandsons Ryan, Brendan and Nolan Deschenes of Niantic; his son William J. Clancy of New Haven; his sister Marie Clancy Gillooly of North Haven; and several nieces and a nephew. He was predeceased by his daughter Alicia Marie Clancy. A service of thanksgiving for and celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, September 18 at 11am at St. Ann’s Episcopal Church, Shore Road, Old Lyme. Memorial contributions May be made to the Godly Play Program of St. Ann’s Church.
