Gail Young Kieffer

Gail Y. Kieffer, born February 6, 1935, passed away peacefully on February 20, 2023 after a long illness. Daughter of the late Louis E. Young and Rosa T. Whitson. Loving mother of William J. Kieffer, III (Peggy), Louis E. Kieffer (Jeana), Lori K. Hardke (Frank), Leesa K. Cimino (Andy) and John A. Kieffer (Kelly), grandmother to seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Gail was born in New Orleans and resided in Kenner before moving to Destrehan in 2020 to live with family. At the age of 65, she retired as the office manager from Herzog’s Automotive Parts, Inc. Before becoming ill, Gail loved to go on bus trips to various restaurants and the Biloxi casinos with her friends from the Mike Miley Golden Age Club, where she served as financial secretary until the height of Covid-19. In her earlier years, she loved to crochet, dance, attend festivals, and go offshore fishing. She was a great cook who insisted on passing this knowledge on to her children and grandchildren. She will be missed by all who were blessed to know her.

The family would like to give a special thanks to the employees of The Carpenter House in River Ridge for their compassion and tender care of our mom during her last days.

A private graveside service will be held on at 9:30AM on Saturday, March 4, 2023 at St. Charles Borromeo Cemetery in Destrehan. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
