Alice Irene Morris, 84, passed away peacefully in her Norfolk home on April 6, 2022 surrounded by her loved ones. Alice was born in Knottsville, KY to the late Ernest and Maude Payne. She was also predeceased by her husband of 63 years, James Russell (Rusty) Morris, Sr. Alice was oldest of ten siblings: Connie & (Harold, deceased), John & (Anna, deceased), Mary Ruth (deceased) & (Marvin, deceased), Elsie & (Bernard), Joe & (Joyce), Carl & (Carol), Eddie & (Helen), Sheila & (Bill), Tony & (Carolyn). She is cherished in memory by her children, Alicia “Janie” (Johnny), Karyn (Bob), James, Jr. & (Janie, deceased), Kenneth “Kenny”, Judith (George) and Kim (Patrick); ten grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Alice was a devoted wife and mother. She married the love of her life and started a family almost immediately. She was a full time homemaker, away from her Kentucky family, raising six children alone for months at a time while Rusty served his country. When the youngest was 10, Alice got a job at Giant Open Air in the floral department. She quickly became a floral manager and was loved and respected by her co-workers. After 24 years, using zero sick days, and a grocery store name change, Alice retired from Farm Fresh. Once retired, Alice and Rusty built the home of their dreams in Gloucester, VA. Alice enjoyed reading, sewing and working with Rusty in their garden. Alice and Rusty enjoyed travelling. They especially loved the western part of the country, where they made numerous trips with family members to Yellowstone, Monument Valley, Bryce Canyon, Mt. Rushmore and many more. She always had lots of pictures and wonderful stories to tell about each trip. Alice loved to laugh. She loved a good joke (although she never seemed to be able to re-tell a joke) which always made her laugh. Alice was a prayerful woman who relied on the Catholic faith to get her through trying times. Alice was a member of St. Stephen Martyr Catholic Church in Chesapeake.
Alice was loved by all who knew her. Her smile would brighten any room she entered and her laughter was infectious. Her children considered her the perfect mother who sacrificed things for herself so they could have. She always gave excellent advice, but only when asked.
