

Andrew “Andy” William Doney, 83, passed away on Tuesday, August 17, 2021 in Virginia Beach surrounded by his children. Andy was raised in Willow Grove, PA to the late Andrew and Freda Doney and moved to Norfolk as a teenager where he graduated from Granby High School. Andy was best known as the owner/operator of American Guaranteed Lighting. At the time, the largest independent lighting company on the East Coast and an industry that he worked in for over 50 years. His contemporaries knew him as “The Man with the Deal” or “The Lightbulb King” - a true traditional gifted salesman. He was a founding member of the Cavalier Golf and Yacht Club where you would either find him on the course or in the card room. Andy was also a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason, a Shriner, the President of the Kiwanis Club in the 70’s and was in the US Army and Reserves in the 50’s/60’s.
Andy was preceded in death by his son Kenneth “Ken” Jordon Doney and granddaughter Jessica Hughes. His remaining children held his hand as he passed and will be cherished in memory by all of his extended family. Daughters: A Beth Hughes, Erin McKinsey (husband Adam), Jessica Doney, Stephanie King (husband Adam) Son: Andrew Doney (fiancé’ Heather Gomez). Grandchildren: Meghann Lynch (husband Josh), Ethan Idrovo, Dylan King, Hannah Doney, Austin Albert, and Owen Doney and Great-granddaughter Lily. His sister Barbara Moose King and Brother David Doney, Nephews and Nieces and those special people to him Mia, Bobby, Carl, Amber, Lindsey & his friends at Scotty Quixx, his Neighbors and so many more. A special thank you to Intrepid Hospice for their loving care and dedication in providing him with the utmost care & comfort in his final days.
A funeral service will be conducted on Friday, September 3, 2021 at 2:00pm at Woodlawn Funeral Home. There will be a visitation one hour prior to the service to fellowship with the family. Burial will immediately follow the service at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, where US Army honors & Masonic Rights will be rendered.
