

Arthur Douglas Williams, MCPO, USN (Ret.), 90, passed peacefully at home in Virginia Beach surrounded by family, Monday, July 31, 2017. Better known to his family and friends as “Doug”, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 45 years, Arlene, and his brother, David Williams.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Sharon Smith and her husband, Clif; Susie Collins, and his sons, Brett Williams, his wife Bonni and their daughter Brittany; and Brian Williams, all of Virginia Beach. He is also survived by his granddaughter, Kristi Harley and her husband, Dustin, and two great granddaughters, Madeline and Ava, of Chesapeake. Not only was he a terrific father to his children, he and Arlene raised and educated Kristi as their own.
He is also survived by his sisters, Judy Andrews of Beverly Hills, FL; Betty Lou Kalis of Traverse City, MI and brother, Dan Williams of Orcas Island, WA; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Doug was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother and will be sorely missed. He was always there to support and cheer on his children and granddaughters in all of their endeavors.
Doug proudly served in the United States Navy, retiring in 1977 after 32 years of active duty service. His last tours of duty were with Inshore Warfare at Little Creek Naval Base.
During his long and full lifetime he enjoyed fishing, bowling, gardening and many trips for various ship reunions. He also made many casino trips to Las Vegas, Michigan and Delaware.
Doug was a member of Kempsville Branch 99, FRA; American Legion Post 0280, South Norfolk Moose Lodge and VFW Post 4809.
A visitation be held on Thursday, August 3, 2017, 6-8 PM at Woodlawn Funeral Home. A graveside service will be conducted by Rev. Scott Foxwell at 3 PM, Friday, in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends following the service at the home of Brett and Bonni Williams.
