Billy B. Spurgeon

Billy B. Spurgeon, a lifelong resident of Norfolk and member of Ocean View Church, passed away Friday morning, November, 22, 2013. Billy was born February 27, 1929 and grew up an “Ocean View boy”. He loved the water and patrolled the beach as a lifeguard in Ocean View in his youth. He was the first Virginia State Wrestling Champion for Billy Martin at Granby High School but he graduated from Maury High School, before serving proudly in the United States Marine Corps.

Billy, a Master Plumber, owned and operated his own plumbing business for over 20 years serving Norfolk and surrounding communities. Billy is preceded in death by his wife of 37 years, Louise Spurgeon.

Billy and Louise spent many hours enjoying boating and crabbing. They passed that love onto their 4 daughters, 12 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Billy will be remembered as a loving and caring father and grandfather.

In later years Billy was active as a docent at the Ocean View Station Museum. Donations may be made in his name at the museum located at the Ocean View Library.

Billy is survived by his daughters, Debra Berner and her husband Randy of Monroeville, PA; Shari Garmon and her husband, Ed of Richmond, VA; Carol Stewart and her husband Jim of Springfield, VA; as well as Jeanette Kennedy and her husband Tim, of Cary, N.C.; twelve grandchildren Christopher, Jonathan, Bethany, Jason, Bradley, Travis, Tyler, Timothy, Katie, Kristie, Jeffery and Brittany; and two great grandchildren Skylar and Grayson.

Visitation will be Mon., 11/25, from 6-8 PM, and funeral Tues., 11/26 at 10:30 AM. All services will be held at Woodlawn Funeral Home & Memorial Gdns. 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd. Norfolk VA 23502.
