Brathel E. Barker

Brathel Edwin Barker passed away on March 25, 2014. Born in Thomasville, NC to Ira E. Barker and Dora Sullivan Barker Blue. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Vonnie Jewell (Toots) Barker; son, Larry Barker (Terry) of Fredericksburg, VA ; son, Randall (Randy) Barker (Carla White) of Norfolk; a brother, Ronald N. Barker of Kernersville, NC; 2 granddaughters, Nicole Orr (Rob) of Fishers, IN and April Mapes (Jonathan) of Norfolk; grandson, Richard Bible of NC; and 9 great-grandchildren. After serving in the US Navy, Brathel moved his family to Norfolk in the early 1950’s. He retired from Norfolk Public Works at Naval Station in 1990 as a Production Controller. An avid camper and member of NTC; member of Masonic AF&AM Norfolk Lodge #1, Khedive Temple Shrine, Life Member of the Khedive Hillbilly Unit and Loyal Order of Moose (Fellowship Degree). A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, March 31, 2014 at Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Norview Chapel with burial to follow at Rosewood Memorial Park.
