Carl Eric Hyman On, Friday, February 5, 2021, Carl Eric Hyman, beloved son of Solomon and Ida Hyman, joined them in Paradise. Preceding him in death was his son Michael on October 4, 2015 and his Beloved wife of 61 years, Elizabeth Hyman on Sunday, January 17, 2021. He leaves to mourn him 2 sons, Steven Gregory Hyman, Sr (Jennifer) of Virginia Beach, VA and Tony Junious (Rhetta) of Atlanta, GA; 2 grandchildren, Steven, II (Kristine and son DeWayne) and Jasmine, all of Virginia Beach, VA. Carl was born in Oak City, NC where he lived with his 10 brothers and sisters. Left to mourn him are his 2 sisters, Gertie H Banks of NC and Myrtle H Easley of MD; and 1 brother Roosevelt Hyman of DC. Preceding him in death were siblings, Alfred Jerome, Charles, Eddie Pete, Leo, Clinton, Lucille H Smith and Ida Mae Spruill. He was blessed with a host of Nieces, Nephews and Cousins all who loved him very much. He also leaves to mourn him many friends and co-workers. For 8 years, Carl proudly served in the United States Air Force. During his time in service to Country, he received a Good Conduct Medal and an Honorable Discharge. Most of his time in service was spent at Maxwell AFB, Montgomery, AL. He retired after 30 years of employment in New York as a Branch Manager for OTB where he worked with his wife Liz. Carl and Liz moved to Virginia Beach in 2016 to spend time with their son and grandchildren. Though their time was short, it was most precious and cherished by all of them. They will both be dearly missed. A funeral service for Carl and Liz will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, March 6, 2021 at Woodlawn Funeral Home with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. Elizabeth Hyman Elizabeth (Johnson) Hyman, was born November 5, 1938 in Savannah, Georgia. She came to New York in January of 1946. She and Carl Eric Hyman married on June 25, 1960. During that 60 year union, they were blessed with 2 sons: Michael, who proceeded her in death and Steven, of Virginia Beach. She also leaves to mourn, a daughter (in law) Jennifer; 2 grandchildren; Steven II (Kristine) and Jasmine; 1 great-grandson, DeWayne, and another expected in July. Also A stepson, Tony (Rhetta); a brother; 3 sisters-in-law; 1 brother- in- law; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Elizabeth worked for a shirt manufacturer, the U.S. Post Office, and New York City O.T.B. She retired from O.T.B. after 28 years. She lived her final years in Virginia with her son Steven and his family. Elizabeth had a great life and she enjoyed it to the fullest. If there is a casino in Heaven, you can bet she's in there playing the slots and having a good time."
