David F. Hughes Sr.

David F. Hughes, Sr., 77, passed away peacefully in his home on June 13, 2011. He was born on October 31, 1933 in Laurel, Maryland the son of the late James and Barbara Hughes. David served his country in the United States Coast Guard and is a member of American Legion Post 327. Being active was what David was best at; he enjoyed playing golf, fishing, clock making and woodworking. David made his grandchildren wooden trunks to take with them to college. He was a Life Member of the Ocean View Democratic and Social Club. David will be missed deeply by his family and friends.

Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife of 47 years, Nancy Hughes of Norfolk; his children, David F. Hughes, Jr., and wife Michelle of Norfolk and Jennifer Lancaster of Coinjock, NC; grandchildren, Michelle and Jessica Hughes and Jacob Lancaster; brothers, Charles Edward Hughes and Robert Arthur Hughes both of Maryland and his close friend, Dr. Richard Foster of Bristol, TN.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 18, 2011 at 11:00 AM in Smith and Williams Funeral Home, 818 Norview Avenue, Norfolk, VA 23509. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Norfolk.
