David Lee Mericle, 80, passed away July 16, 2010 in a local hospital. David was a member of Elizabeth River Baptist Church. He retired after 30 years of faithful service with the U.S. Navy. Surviving are his wife, Frances "Molly" Mericle; seven daughters, Deborah Daryell Meredith of Chesapeake, Jennifer Owens and Lesley Flournoy, both of Brunswick, Ga., Michelle Ussery, Suzanne Bishop and Dana Gardner, all of St. Simons Island, Ga., Kim Wiedel of Williams, Ore.; son, David Jeffrey of Brunswick, Ga.; a brother, John A. Mericle of Sand Springs, Okla.; 20 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and a very special niece, Jeannie Lamb of Collinsville, Okla. The family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, July 19, at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd., Norfolk, where a funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Richard Saul and Mr. Charlie Hackworth officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. If you so desire, you may send memorial contributions in David's name to the Elizabeth River Baptist Church, the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
