Donald E Jackson

Donald E. Jackson, 91, passed away peacefully on March 5, 2025. He was born in Beaufort County, NC to the late Henry R. and Edith Boyd Jackson. Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by his beloved wife of fifty-six years, Shirley T. Jackson; brother, Dallas; and sister, Margaret. Donald served his country in the U.S. Army and subsequently retired from the Norfolk Ford Plant after 35 years. He was a longtime member of Avalon Church of Christ and loved his many dear friends who attended. He was devoted to his wife Shirley and compassionately cared for her until her death. Donald loved to watch sports, especially baseball, football and golf. For decades, he was the ultimate Cowboys fan but even grew to like the Washington Commanders (just kidding). In his younger years, he was an avid golfer and also enjoyed singing and playing the guitar. Donald simply loved to make people laugh. His wisdom and quick witted humor will always be remembered.

He is survived by two daughters, Cathy Lerman and Karen Herndon and their spouses; three grandchildren and one great grandchild. Donald was deeply grateful for his Avalon family and loved his dear nieces who were always there for him. Donald was a man of deep faith which guided his life.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 16, 2025 from 2-4pm at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd. Norfolk, VA. A Service to celebrate his life will take place at the funeral home on Monday, March 17, 2025 at 11am with Pastor Malcolm Puckett officiating.
