

Edita R.F. Atilano, 74, of Virginia Beach, VA, was taken by God on Oct. 20, 2016 after a short courageous illness. She was born on August 30th, 1942 in Zamboanga City, Mindanao, Philippines. Edita was preceded in death by her loving husband Abelardo C. Atilano on November 13th, 2004. She is survived by her beloved cats Cleopatra and Moses, her daughter Francessa “Chessy” R.F. Jeffries, son-in-law Steven, grandchildren Megan and Jordan, great-grandchildren (the cowboys), Elijah and E.J., son Arthur D.R.F Atilano and daughter-in-law Robin Atilano, grandchildren Michael, Megan, Robert, great-grandson Caleb and her sisters Tita Ramirez and Zenaida Angeles.
Edita was employed by the City of Virginia Beach Public Schools Food Services Department from 1972 – 2002 and finished her last working years managing the cafeteria at Alanton Elementary School.
After her husband passed away in 2004 she dedicated her life to volunteer work at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church in Virginia Beach, VA. She worked tirelessly 30 – 40 hours a week participating with The Filipino-American Ministry, The Women’s Club, The Legion of Mary and the Arimatheans. She was also a Eucharistic Minister and a Sacristan.
She will always be remembered for her service to God and others, her countless hours volunteering, her love of her family and friends, her infectious laugh and humor and her steadfast belief in her faith. She will be truly missed in this world.
