Ernesto D Gonzales

Ernesto “Speedy” Gonzales passed away, surrounded by his family on February 24th, 2020. Ernesto faithfully served his country with the United States Navy for over 20 years. After retirement, you could find Ernesto cooking for his family, or refining his wood working skills. One of his favorite past times was creating elaborate Christmas light displays, for all to enjoy and when something needed to be fixed, everyone knew to go to Ernesto the handyman. Ernesto loved spending time with his family, watching his children and grandchildren grow, being the most loving “Lolo”. Ernesto always made sure to set good examples of hard work and made sure his family knew that education should be a top priority. Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife Frieda, sons Michael and Sean Gonzales and daughter Dr. Michelle (Luke) Bundy. Ernesto will forever have a special place in the hearts of his grandchildren William Gonzales, Lucas Bundy, Logan Bundy, Vivien Gonzales and Grace Gonzales. Ernesto will also live on in the memory of his siblings, Aurora, Emma, Ricardo and Augusto. Ernesto was preceded in death by his parents, Martha and Augusto, sister Lydia and brother Larry. Ernesto’s family will be accepting guests at Woodlawn Funeral Home, Norfolk, VA on Friday February 28th, 2020 from 5:00 PM – 9:00PM. A funeral Mass will take place at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, Virginia Beach, VA on Saturday February 29th at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow the funeral Mass at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. Following all services Ernesto's family is welcoming family and friends to join them at Captain Ray's for lunch and a time of fellowship. Captain Ray's is located at 5957 E.
