Frances Hawthorne Burrell Bailey "Tudy"

Frances Burrell Bailey died peacefully in Virginia Beach Hospital on Mar. 18, 2009. Born in Columbia, SC, July 15, 1926 she was the daughter of the late James Handbury and Kathleen Mobley Burrell. Her husband of 60 years, Walter F. Bailey, passed away in 2006. Tudy was a devoted Mother who expressed exceptional love for family and friends. She is survived by four children; Walter F. "Beau" and his wife, Carmela, of Alexandria, Va. Kathleen Bailey Self, of Virginia Beach, James W. "Bill" and his wife Marie of Charlottesville and John H. of Virginia Beach; two grandchildren, James Nicholas, and Anna Kathleen Bailey of Alexandria; her sister Sarah Burrell Jordan and brother Ret. Col. William L. Burrell; Preceeded in death by her brother, James Hanbury Burrell. Tudy was a 1944 graduate of Oceana High School and later attended The College of William and Mary, Norfolk Division. She worked in Fort Story where she met her husband Walter F. Bailey. Her hobbies were knitting, sewing, and painting in pastels. She later worked as Parish Secretary for Eastern Shore Chapel. She was a Charter member of the Princess Anne County Chapter of DAR. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1:30 p.m.at Galilee Episcopal Church. Burial services at Eastern Shore Chapel Cemetery will follow a Church reception. Friends are invited to the Bailey's home after burial. Donations may go to Galilee Episcopal Church and to Virginia Beach Rescue Squad.
