Frances McCarthy

Frances was born to the late George Harris Eason and Fannie Catherine Jones Eason on August 21, 1921 in Selma, NC. She was one of seven children, raised in a close loving home. She attended Selma High School where she was voted the prettiest girl in her senior class.

In 1939, while in high school, she met the love of her life, George W. McCarthy. They were married on August 18, 1940 and shared 40 years of marital bliss until his death in 1980. From their union they had two children; a son, Mac and a daughter, Jan. She partnered with her family to represent a Christian home. They faithfully attended Norview Baptist Church where she was a part of the Women’s Missionary Union, Sunday school and church.

Traveling to North Carolina and Georgia to visit relatives was one of the most enjoyable pastimes. Family reunions consisted of good fellowship, eating Eastern North Carolina Barbeque (vinegar based pork) and sitting back to marvel at the sweet musical selections played on the piano, banjo, guitar and bass fiddle played by her son Mac, CV, her nephew, and other musicians. She enjoyed crocheting and reading Christian devotions.

Frances worked for Paul H. Rose Corp. for approximately 16 years as a switchboard operator, but enjoyed most of her years as a homemaker, loving wife and mother. During her later years she moved to Annville, Pa, where she resided with her daughter, Jan for three years. For the last three years she lived at Columbia Cottage Assisted Living.

She leaves to cherish her memory, a son, George W. McCarthy, his wife Delaine, of Roswell, Ga., a daughter, Janet M. George, her husband Stephen of Annville, Pa; four grandchildren, George W. McCarthy IV, his wife Mary Lisa of Dothan, Al; Sherry George of Annville, Pa; Melanie Boyer, her husband Gary of Jonestown, Pa; Kimberly Wolfe, her husband Joel of Annville, Pa; four great-grandsons, Nicholas, William, Callahan, and Charles Henry McCarthy of Dothan, Al; a sister-in-law, Marguerite Eason of Wilmington, NC and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
