

Mr. Eckert was born and raised in Anglica, Wisconsin. After finishing school he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps where he served proudly and with honor during World War II. At the end of the war he was honorably discharged from the Marines and settled in Norfolk, where he worked for E.T. Gresham Co. and retired as superintendent after 30 years. Mr. Eckert was an avid gardener and had become over the years, to many friends and strangers, their all around fixit man for all tools and machines for the yard, and spending time with his many friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife ImoJean S. Eckert, his mother and father August Eckert and Core Dickson Eckert, three brothers and four sisters and a step son Everett L. Kingrey of Virginia Beach. He is survived by three step daughters, Eileen Jenkins (Tommy) of Quinlan, Texas, Joan Vann (Gene) of Redlands, California, and Billy Jean Neaves of Norfolk, Virginia; and one step son Robert N. Kingrey (Liz) of Grand Terrace, California; 12 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and 8 great great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Friday March 27, 2009, from 6 to 8 PM at Woodlawn Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held Saturday March 28, 2009, by Rev. John Eidam of St. Peter's Episcopal Church, at 10 AM in Woodlawn Funeral Home Chapel, 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd., Norfolk. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. Donations may be made to St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 224 S. Military Highway, Norfolk, VA 23502. To all Mr. Eckert's friends we know you will miss him as we will.
