

George Raymond Taylor, 84, passed away on Wednesday, September 17, 2014, at Commonwealth Assisted Living in Hampton, Virginia, with his loving wife of 62 years and his family members by his side. He formerly lived in Norfolk, and was born on July 7, 1930, in Fallowfield, Pennsylvania. He was the son of the late George Jennings Taylor and Emma Bell Shipmen Taylor. George retired from the United States Navy after 20 years of service as a cook and baker and also retired from the Naval Supply Center in Norfolk, Virginia after 12 years. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying fishing and hunting. George excelled in other hobbies, including square dancing, shelling, ceramics, stained glass, painting, and gardening. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Margaret Bullard, Velma Porter, and Mary Kirst; and two brothers, Arden Taylor and John Taylor. In addition to his loving wife, Toni Chang Yu Taylor, he is survived by four children: Wang Hao Ming and wife Xiao Lan of Newport News; Wang Mei Juan of Wuxi, China; Margaret T. Brown and husband Donald of Newport News; and George R. Taylor Jr. and wife Susan of Jupiter, Florida; seven grandchildren: Zhang Yi Min (Deslie), Jiang Yi Fen (Sabrina), Wang Jing (Amy), Virginia Schubert, Stephanie Brown, Ian Taylor, and Matthew Taylor; and three great grandchildren, Amaya Cao Wang, Zhang Yi Qing (Elena), and Desmond Schubert. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 23, 2014, at 2:00 pm at Woodlawn Funeral home Chapel, 6329 E Virginia Beach Blvd, Norfolk, Virginia.
