Hazel I. Mathews, age 87, passed away Thursday, January 12, 2012 at Lake Taylor Nursing Home. She was the widow of William Ervin Mathews, Sr. and was predeceased by her son, William Ervin Mathews, Jr. Hazel was also a member of Coleman Place Presbyterian Chuch and the Eastern Star. Surviving are two sons; Randy Mathews of Chesapeake and Robert Mathews of Raleigh, NC. A sister, Mildred Ransone of Virginia Beach, VA.; nine grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. A visitation will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2012 beginning at 11am. Funeral services will immediately follow at 12 noon in Woodlawn Funeral Home, 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd., conducted by Rev. Eslie Phillips and Rev. Robin Wooddell. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
