Howard Jennings McCracken, 93, passed away in Virginia Beach, VA. Howard was born in Huntington, WV to the late Stanley and Bessie McCracken. He was also predeceased by his wife, Betty Jane McCracken and two siblings, Louise Kennedy and Bobby McCracken. Howard retired after 20 years of dedicated service from the US Navy as a machinist mate. After his time in service he used his knowledge in the field to work again as a machinist with Chesapeake Memorial Hospital. Howard was also a member of the VFW Lodge #392 in Virginia Beach. He was a true workaholic and loved fixing things. When he wasn’t working you would see him spending time with the grandbabies. He is cherished in memory by his children, Howard McCracken, Jr. and Lisa Fondren; three grandchildren, Joseph Buckley, Joshua Panko (Tiffany) and Sarah DeVore (Greg); five great grandchildren, Emma, Ben, Sawyer, Grace-Ann and Jackson as well as his siblings, Daniel McCracken and Judy Bryant.
There will be visitation on Monday, February 27, 2023 from 6-7pm at Woodlawn Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will be conducted at 9am, Tuesday, February 24, 2023 in the funeral home chapel with burial to follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
