James c Hill, Sr. (aka Jim, jimmy, JC) took his last train ride on 4-12-2024, 5 months shy of turning 90. Born 9-16-1934 in Princeton, West Virginia. Resided in Princeton until 1966 when his job located him to Norfolk VA. Graduated from Oakvale High School. His stent in college was helping build the girls dorm rooms at Concord College. Served in the Army for 4 years. Then for the next 40 years was a carman with Norfolk Western/ Norfolk Southern Railroad. He ran on coffee with 2 spoons of sugar; peanut butter; buttermilk, caramel candy, and enjoyed Boston cream pie. He enjoyed going to the railroad retiree’s breakfast meetings. He enjoyed going to and having his own yard sales. Visiting thrift stores and flea markets. Gardening was done every year especially tomatoes, cucumbers, green beans and Gigantic Sunflowers. He liked country music, news channel TV 3, and reading good old days magazines. He loved to tinker with and fixing what was broken and or building and painting something.
Preceded in death by parents Frank and Beulah Hill. Sisters Pansy Brown and Lizzy St. Clair; brothers Robert Hill, John Henry Hill, Billy Hill and 2 siblings who passed away as babies. Jim is survived by daughters Pam Hill, Tammy Burton -and son Jimbo Hill, 4 grandsons Chris Hill, Jason Hill, Ben Burton and Bryan Burton; son n law Rick Burton; daughter n law Kim Hill; sister-in-law, Verlie Sutphin and a brother Clayton Hill.
