John Edward Thompson

John Edward Thompson was born in North Carolina on June 18, 1947 to the late Rosa E. Sessoms and William E. Thompson. On June 21, 2013 at the age of 66, John passed away at Chesapeake General Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He is predeceased by his son Cordell Thompson; sister Cloteen Harris; and grandparents John and Blanch Thompson.

After high school, John served proudly in the US Navy and received many awards: National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, and a Navy Overseas Ribbon with a Silver Star. In 1988, after dedicating 26 years of service John retired. In 1993, he married the love of his life Marjorie Thompson. He was also a member of Emmaus Road Baptist Church.

John is survived by his loving wife of 20 years Marjorie Thompson; his brothers Willie Thompson, Algustus Thompson, and David Thompson, Sr.; sisters Evelyn Harris, Sandra Lake, Rosa Yardborough, Kathy Lewis and Essie Thompson; and grand-daughter Cordella Thompson.

Funeral service will take place Wednesday, June 26, 2013 at 12PM at Emmaus Road Baptist Church located at 3000 Berkley Ave. Chesapeake, VA 23325 with burial service to immediately follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens located at 6309 E. Virginia Beach Blvd. Norfolk, VA 23502.
