

Louis Bass Talley, 95, passed away Friday, March 11, 2011. Mr. Talley was born in Clarksville, Virginia, August 27, 1915 to the late Gus T. Talley and Alice M. Gould. Those left to cherish his memory are the love of his life for 23 years; wife, Doris Whitley Talley; daughter, Teresa T. Kelly and husband Jeffrey of Dawsonville, Georgia; grandson, Brian Kelly and wife Tiffany of Cumming, Georgia., and one brother Gus T. Talley, Jr. and wife Norma Jean of Clayton, North Carolina. Also Doris's children, John G. Swain III and wife Annette of O'Fallon, Illinois, Brenda B. Hanwit-New and husband Arthur of Chesapeake, Paula S. Harrell and husband William, Jr. of Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina; five grandchildren Jeffrey Swain, Douglas Banagan, Ryan Banagan, Amanda Stair and husband Benjamin and Ashleigh Harrell; one great-grandchild Alexis Stair.
He was predeceased by his first wife Lucy Hicks Talley; two brothers, Luther and Hoover; and two sisters Margaret and Frances.
He served in the US Army Air Force during World War II and worked for M.M. Gunter until his retirement in 1982. He was a member of the VFW and 60+ Club of Ocean View. He attended St. John's United Methodist Church as well.
He loved the outdoors and enjoyed sitting on the porch, watering the yard, and watching neighbors and friends walk by the house on their way to the beach. He would often give them a wave or a nod. He will definitely be missed by many in the neighborhood.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm, Sunday, March 13, 2011 at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd., Norfolk. Funeral services will be conducted 11 am, Monday, March 14, 2011 with the Reverend Clifton Whitlock officiating. Internment will follow in Woodlawn Funeral Home and Cemetery. The family request that in lieu of flowers memorial donations be made to Sentara Hospice Care Services of Virginia Beach, 535 Independence Blvd., Suite 500, Chesapeake or St. John's United Methodist Church, 2709 Greendale Ave., Norfolk.
