Lucian Fred Drew born November 25, 1927 in Rose Hill North Carolina passed away in his home on October 25, 2012. Fred as he was lovingly known will be greatly missed by many family members, church friends, and neighbors.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 25 years, Ella Drew; his sons Gary (Brenda), Tommy (Anne), James; and daughters Maria (Shane) Sullivan, Sandra (Russell) Ballweg; two step children Ella Dianne (Mac) Miller, Earle S. (Amy) Hogan, Jr.; 15 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and a host of very special nieces, nephews, other relatives, and close friends. Fred loved his church and church family. He loved the Lord and looked forward to the day He returns.
He worked for Ford Motor Company assembly plant for 33 years. After retiring he worked for Tidewater Adventist Academy for 11 years. Many of the children there learned to love “Mr. Fred” and his antics. One stands out more than others when he pushed down a dead tree, amazing the children with his strength. He was a character everyplace he went. He loved to golf and played every chance he got with friends and family members.
He was active in his church and held the office of head deacon for a while. Always willing to help in anyway asked, he would arrive early to open the church and stay late to lock doors and make sure everything was done to perfection. He was someone that everyone could rely on.
Family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until noon at which time the service will begin on Thursday, November 1, 2012 at Norfolk Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 1099 Kempsville Road Norfolk, VA. Interment will follow at Riverside-Magnolia Memorial Park. A reception in his honor will be given back at the church he loved following the graveside service.
The family asks that friends wishing to remember Fred consider a gift in lieu of flowers to the Norfolk Seventh-Day Adventist Church for the building fund.
He will be greatly missed.
