Marie Modlin Sawyer

Marie M. Sawyer, 94, wife of the late Richard Lee Sawyer and a resident of Virginia Beach, VA passed away on Thursday, August 14, 2014 at her residence. Marie was born on April 27, 1920 in Lewiston, NC to the late Clarence A. Modlin and the late Iva Bay Dilday Modlin. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School, a member of the Elizabeth Hale Circle, Missionary Society, and past Communion Committee member. Marie is survived by her daughter, Linda S. O’Konek and her husband Michael of Virginia Beach, Virginia; sister, Rosa Simons of Virginia Beach, Virginia; Grandchildren Michael O’Konek and his wife Cheryl of Ashburn, Virginia and Courtney Fraser and her husband Randy of Marlborough, Massachusetts; and nephews, nieces and cousins. She is predeceased by a brother, Leroy Modlin and a sister Lillie Foster. A visitation will be held at Woodlawn Funeral Home on Monday, August 18th, 2014 from 10 to 11 am. A graveside funeral service will be at 11:30 am in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hope Haven Children’s Home, 3000 N Landing Rd, Virginia Beach, VA 23456.
