

Mary D. Orner, a native of Philadelphia, PA, passed away on April 6, 2017. She is predeceased by her husband of 48 years, Francis J. Orner; a son, Francis Orner Jr.; and sibblings John Rhoads and Barbara Carlson.
Mary, who was the eldest of nine siblings, left Philadelphia in the 60’s when she married Francis who was in the United States Navy and stationed in Virginia. Their only child was son, Francis Jr. Together Mary and her Navy husband traveled the country to places like San Francisco and Oakland CA, The Great Lakes of Michigan and Charleston South Carolina. They resided in Norfolk, VA for over 30 years.
Mary retired from the United States Post Office, a job she loved as a quality control specialist. Other passions in her life included dogs and cats and was known to say that, “Dog owners come when called and cats want you to take a message and they’ll get back with you later”. Mary read the newspaper religiously and often wrote letters to the editor when in disagreement with an issue and kept a scrapbook of these responses.
Mary was not only loved by her immediate family but also by her husband’s family and leaves to cherish her memory, siblings; Louisa Rossi, Winifred Buck, Walter Rhoads (Evelyn), Dorothea Riess (Louis), Thomas Rhoads (Katherine), Clara McFaull (William); sister-in-laws, Alice Mulvey and Clara Keough, brother-in-law David Orner and good neighbors and friends.
A funeral service is scheduled to honor the life of Mary on Friday, April 21, 2007 at 12:00 pm at Woodlawn Funeral Home and Crematory, 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd. Norfolk, VA 23502.
