Mazie Joy Boyd

Virginia Beach ~ Mazie Joy Boyd, 79, peacefully passed away July 17, 2007, surrounded by family and friends in Sentara Leigh Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. A native of Camden, New Jersey, Joy lived in Virginia Beach since 1961. Joy graduated from Jefferson Hospital School of Nursing in 1947 and proudly served the medical profession as an RN for many years. She was honored to serve as a volunteer at Sentara Bayside Hospital for over 30 years. Joy leaves to cherish her memory, her childhood sweetheart and husband of over 58 years, William Boyd; three children, Suzanne Puryear and husband, Michael Borysewicz of Norfolk, William Michael Boyd and wife, Polly of Virginia Beach and Felicia Boyd and her husband, Daniel Legett of Jacksonville Beach. She leaves seven grandchildren, Kelly Larkin, Adam, Lauren, and Ashley Boyd, Rebecca, Henry and Sam Legett; and two great-grandchildren, Ashby and Seth Larkin. She is also survived by her sister, Gladys Caldwell of Delmar, MD, and several nieces and nephews. A service will be held 1:30 PM, Friday, July 20, 2007 in Woodlawn Funeral Home, 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd. Entombment will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends 12:30 PM until time of service on Friday in the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made in lieu of flowers to Kempsville Volunteer Rescue Squad.
