

Randy E. McRae, born on April 5, 1947, peacefully passed away at his home on March 8, 2024, surrounded by his beloved family. He was the devoted husband of April M. (Groves) McRae, whom he married on June 9, 1967, and together they shared a love that transcended time.
Randy's life was marked by his deep passions and unwavering dedication. His love for sports, including bowling, basketball, tennis, running, and golf, brought joy to those around him. His adeptness with computers was another facet of his multifaceted personality, showcasing his curiosity and adaptability.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Oliver F. McRae "Mac" and Louie J. Artmeier "Jean", his stepmother, Emma McRae "Emily" and his sister, Jaquelyn C. Liverman “Jackie”. In addition to his wife, Randy is survived by his devoted brother, Charles B. Artmeier “Bruce”, and his two cherished daughters, Shelly D. Harrell and Erin M. Tanner (Nick). His legacy lives on through his seven beloved grandchildren: Jared T. Smith (Cindy), Kayla M. Ferland (RJ), Haley N. Harrell, Devin J. Tanner, Mason D. Harrell, Chloe M. Tanner, and Ethan D. Tanner. He is also survived by his loving extended family, including Edith A. Rossiter “Arlene”, Beverly G. Kane, Paul D. Kane, and a host of nieces and nephews who will carry his memory in their hearts forever.
Randy was a pillar of strength and faith in his community, finding solace and purpose as an active member of SonRise Christian Church, where he was baptized on June 13, 2021. His commitment to service extended beyond the church walls. Randy honorably served over 20 years in the Army and Army National Guard, achieving the rank of Master Sergeant and bravely undertaking a combat deployment to Vietnam in 1969 where he was awarded a Bronze Star with Valor. Following his military service, he dedicated another 20 years to the Virginia Beach Police Department, where he achieved Master Police Officer, continuing his employment with the city, he went on to ComIT as a Systems Engineer retiring in 2010. He was invaluable, leaving a lasting impact on his colleagues and community.
A visitation will be held from 6 pm to 8 pm on March 20, 2024 at Woodlawn Funeral Home, located at 6329 E Virginia Beach Blvd, Norfolk, VA 23502. Randy's celebration of life will be held at SonRise Christian Church on March 21, 2024 at 1:30 pm, located at 600 Independence Blvd, Va Beach, VA 23462, followed by interment at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens Avenue of Flags, 6329 E Va Beach Blvd, Norfolk, VA 23502.
Flowers can be sent to Woodlawn Memorial Gardens or in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to SonRise Christian Church in Randy's honor.
Randy will be fondly remembered for his kindness, strength, and unwavering dedication to his family, faith, and community. May his spirit continue to inspire us all.
