Rexford C. Kent

Rexford C. Kent, a kind and gentle man, passed away at his home on Thursday, November 20, 2014 at the age of 79. He was a loving and devoted, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to all.

A native of Detroit, Michigan, Rex retired in 1972 after 20 years in the United States Navy. He also became a Master Plumber, volunteered for 13 years at Lake Taylor Transitional Care Hospital, was a member of the FRA for 50 years and the American Legion.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Cleo Kent and his sister Diane E. Kent. Rex is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Mary Kent; daughter, Diane K. Dotson; grandchildren, Katherine J. Fite and Daniel Hux Jones; two great-grandchildren Carleigh and Wayne Fite; and his faithful furry companion Henry J.

The family will receive friends on Monday, November 24, 2014, at Woodlawn Funeral Home 6329 E Virginia Beach Blvd, Norfolk, VA, 23502 from 1 to 2 p.m. A funeral service will be conducted at 2p.m. with Fr. Bob Randall officiating. A reception will follow in the Woodlawn Funeral Home reception hall. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the FoodBank of Southeastern Hampton Roads and Lake Taylor Transition Care Hospital. The family would like to thank Sentara Hospice and nurse Shannon Williams for her outstanding care that she provided to Rex.
