Rich was born on February 17th, 1965 in Portsmouth, Virginia to Judith and Richard McMullen.
Rich’s life motto was “I’m a simple man, with simple needs”. Even though he lived in the city, he enjoyed simple country living. Some of his favorite activities were sitting around a bonfire with his family and friends, listening to music, and having cook-outs for any and every reason and looked forward to spending holidays together as a family.
Rich had many interests, and he was described by others as a jack of all trades. His interests included landscaping, carpentry/woodworking, cooking/grilling, spending time with his family, playing board games, and taking road trips. He also was an avid sports fan, cheering for the Minnesota Vikings, L.A. Dodgers, Washington Nationals and any Michigan sports team (except Michigan State, GO WOLVERINES!!). Rich was very knowledgeable and took a special interest in learning about history and loved trivia.
Rich’s biggest achievement in life was being the best brother (that five sisters could ask for). Rich paid special attention to being an outstanding Uncle to his MANY nieces and nephews, always treating them like they were his own children.
Rich had a very special personality, always making sure that others were taken care of, even when that meant that he put everyone before himself. Rich would make sure that everyone had a seat at family functions, even if he had to stand. Everyone had enough to eat, even if he didn’t. He would always make sure everyone was comfortable, even if he had to give up his comfort. Rich even moved home to take care of mom and while doing so he made her a promise to take care of dad when the time came.
Waiting for Rich at heaven’s gate are his parents Judith Anne and Richard Paul McMullen, Sr.
Left to cherish his memory are his five loving sisters Kristy (Roger) Andrews, Becky (Bruce) Barbeau, Colleen (Jimbo) Marshall, Kathy (Paul) Thomas and Amy McMullen. Rich will hold a very special place in the hearts of his treasured nieces and nephews Kendall, Tim and Natasha (Grayson, Bryce and Reed), Jennifer and Alex (Lexi and Reese), Melissa and Jon, Gus and Shannon (Mady, Bella, Mikey, Andrew, Logan and Paisley), Keith and Auriel, Kyle and Kacie (Carmen, Mikey and Lilly), Shelby and Joe (Ava and Evi), David and Kelly (soon to be Baby Girl Thomas), Hayley and Kelsey.
